The aim of Acceptance and Commitment Training (ACT) is to help you create a rich, full and meaningful life, while being more effective at handling the stress that life inevitably brings.
You accomplish this by:
- Practicing skills to deal with difficult thoughts and feelings in such a way that they have much less impact and influence over you (these are known as mindfulness skills).
- Getting clear about what is truly important and meaningful to you (your values), and using that knowledge to guide, inspire and motivate you to change your life for the better.
This approach has successfully reduced distress and increased cooperation and support among staff in many different work environments. You are participating in the first evaluation of this approach in the middle school environment.
